Shapemaker 0672 is the new 3 axis routing centre from BDG Machine Tools. With it's fantastic price and large Z travel it makes high technology available to a wide range of industries. Shapemaker provides a quantum leap forward in versatility, economy, speed and user friendliness. Shapemaker is fantastic for cutting plastic, aluminium and wood to close tolerances. Standard features include full guarding and dust management, an eight position tool changer and simultaneous three axis look ahead contouring.

By utilising a router with a high rail gantry, the Shapemaker 0672 is able to machine an incredible range of geometry with long tools, and has the height and rigidity to make parts that would be impossible to machine on a normal flat bed router. The Shapemaker 0672 can not only move all three axes simultaneously to rapidly shape curved surfaces but can also machine tall parts glued up in layers. BDG worked closely with industry to create a machine that greatly improves on the usefulness of other three axis routing machines without the expense and complexity oof five axis programming.

As an example, Pump Tech are using a BDG Shapemaker 672 to CNC machine patterns and moulds for pump housings and pump impellers.

Pump Tech are using the Shapemaker to satisfy customer demands for ever increasing accuracy and tight delivery times.

Whilst many three axis routers are capable of profile cutting, using a Shapemaker 672 allows the parts to have more height. The high rail gantry not only increases the available cutting height but also contributes to excellent machine dynamics that all patterns to be machined to greater accuracy and smoothness in a fraction of the time compared to low rail flat bed routing machines..

The Shapemaker 672 has a 2.5m by 1.3m table and up to 600mm of vertical travel. The machine is relatively compact being 2.3m wide by 3.5m long and only 2.9m high. With rapid traverse speeds up to 48m/minute and an 18000 rpm, 3.7kW wate cooled spindle, parts can be machined very quickly. The Shapemaker 672 uses a DSPl motion control that is especially good at handling long programs with complex motion profiles. The controller uses G codes and is compatible with common CAD/CAM programs such as Pro/Engineer, Delcam, Unigraphics, TopSolid and Mastercam.

Shapemaker is Australian made and uses top quality components sourced from Korea, China and Europe. AC servo motors, encoder feedback, precission racks and planetary gearboxes and profiled linear rails with ball bearing cars provide maximum reliability. .

Users will appreciate the full guarding and dust management. The control console is ergonomically designed and uses a Toshiba notebook PC.

The eight place tool changer adds a level of versatility usually only found on machining centres. The Shapemaker 0672 can rapidly change tools and can handle a variety of router cutters including straight, ballnose, profiled cutters and saw blades.

From fine engraving work, to profile cutting, rapid proto-typing, heavy roughing, large size pattern making and high speed contouring, the Shapemaker 672 is a versatile and productive machine that can manufacture a vast range of tools, products and shapes.
